Align Footwear is visiting Lecturer in Anatomy Lars Dalhoff

It might be the end of heel spurs, sciatic pain, supination and pronation

We have visited Associate Professor Lars Dalhoff, teaching anatomy at the Physiotherapy School in Holstebro, Denmark. Lars Dalhoff has followed the Align Footwear insoles with great interest and has even tested them – both on himself as well as on selected target groups within top sport. His thoughts and assessment of the insoles are as follows:

« I am involved in the world of top sport as well as teaching at the university VIA in Holstebro. Anatomy is my main focus – so I’m interested in the insole as a tool in the sporting world.

When it comes to anatomy we see a lot of foot position – a good contact with the soil is important for the body’s alignment – well, that’s why they call the insoles for Align Footwear! I always focus my examination and analysis on the knees and body trunk when I work with my students. They must be in balance – and then I look down on the foot – it must also be in balance – sometimes instability is due to instability elsewhere – and vice versa.

When we are talking about “alignment” is means that the body is straight all the way down from top to toe. Many other soles of which I know, have focused on the arch of the foot. If you have a tendency to exceed pronation or have flat foot, we often insert a pad of some kind in order to make up for the point on the foot, where the problem is obvious. What is unique about this specific insole is the direct contact to the big toe – and the big toe is the most important part of our foot in order to obtain contact on the ground and our balance. The best part of creating such a whole sole, as the Align Footwear insoles, instead of only making support at e.g. the end of the foot, is the fact that the focus is here both on the heel and on the forefoot. Align Footwear has addressed both the forefoot and heel. If the foot is balanced and corrected from the heel and out to the big toe, then there is a high probability that we have a perfect positioning of the feet and body ».

How does it actually work?

« According to Align Footwear, the most important feature as regards the insoles is the world patented Tri Planar Points – but to me, two things are even more important: the forefoot – which is all about stability and creating a good contact with the ground – and then there is the support of the heel. What is essential is the fact that the heel becomes corrected and thereby also creates natural balance of the rest of the body, ie. the alignment I mentioned before. If you balance your ankle and thus your feet right, it makes perfect sense – because if you can rectify the bones – the calcaneus and talus – talus is the contact of the ankle – and if one imagines that the heel bone drops slightly to one side, it will affect all the bones in the heel end of the foot. But when using the insoles, it will affect all the bones in a positive direction.

The Align Footwear insoles cannot fix everything – but I believe that by correcting your heals, you will get a good starting point for all other parts of the foot and alignment of the body. Therefore, I think this is a very interesting solution – it’s really cool that you work with the heel the way these insoles do….”.

I always find it very exciting when something new is presented on the market of wellness and wellbeing, but this one – it’s great to be focusing on the whole foot rather than focusing on only the arch -like all other insoles on the market do…. and they are very often very expensive – I’ve been paying for a pair for my daughter, but you look at specialized soles which are warmed and tailored to the individual foot – they will cost you as much as GBP 140 – and they will often need to be adjusted continuously. Align Footwear insoles are relatively inexpensive – and I believe that they will support and help most people – not 100% of all human beings but still quite a lot… ».

Align Footwear insoles are working in the direction of something really positive for really many people all over the world. I do believe – based on my experience and competences – that these insoles might be the end of heel spurs, sciatic pain, supination and pronation.

What disadvantages do you think the insoles from Align Footwear might have?

« They will not save the world but I would as an expert and specialist say that it is a product you should try out on your own body – it hits the average human being – so there may be someone in one end, which needs one kind of support and help – and someone on the other end of the scale, who is in need of something else, however, these insoles have a the general approach and they do a lot of good for the majority of people. There is a high probability that they do a lot of good things for many – it’s such an all-round insole that affects many rather than the individual. Therefore, I say try it, there is good probability that it makes you a lot of good…..  »

Can they improve and optimize performance within for example sports?

« Yes, if the body is “tipping” to one side or to the other side and thus affecting the knees, hips and all the way up to ones shoulders, they will be of great importance. By straighten the body and working with the biomechanical parts – and by reducing the risk of overloading because the body is corrected, you are much likely to perform better. It’s all about getting the muscles to work equally on the interior as well as the exterior side of the bone and the front and back too…

Can you optimize your performance? – yes , you may because your body does not need to concentrate on being ‘careful’ in the same way as when the body is naturally uneven and you will experience a much better control of your feet and whole body. The fact that the body is aligned in the right position will create an aligned knee, your hips and shoulders. A straight posture is the healthiest and natural position for the body, providing the best balance and preventing the body from sliding, twisting etc while being active by jumping and kicking and twisting « .

It is unique because …

« There are many different insoles available on the market and many of them are focused on comfort and softness. The Align Footwear insoles are interesting because they have the three points (the Tri Planar Points technology) which support the heel – it’s not seen before. It’s very special. Most insoles, with have focus on correction of the foot, often stop their support under the arch – the Align Footwear insole is a complete sole, which also ensures that the insole will not move around in the shoes – something that can cause irritation, blisters and wrong correction. With the Align Footwear insoles you will obtain a firm ground under your foot including good shock absorption and support.

Finally, I would like to ad that it is a really great thing that the insoles also are available in children’s sizes – by correcting at an early stage, you may avoid much pain – e.g., of a too relaxed forefoot for example. Early focus is important.  »
